Fuji from the Shinkansen

New Year’s Day we took the early morning shinkansen (bullet train) to Tokyo. As the sun rose, we, still very much asleep, crawled into an empty car and settled in for the trip. A few hours later we were speeding along beside unparalleled panoramas. This photo was taken out the window of my seat, while I was curled in sweats, half asleep, and dreaming of hot coffee.

Here’s a tip: When taking the train east, sit on the left side.

  1. Wow, you’re lucky you got to see Mt. Fuji! We took the Shinkansen from Osaka to Tokyo on Jan. 4 and all I saw of Mt. Fuji was it’s base – the tip almost completely covered in clouds. Then on our way back from Tokyo to Osaka on Jan. 7, I got to see the tip of Mt. Fuji, with majority of its base covered in clouds :P Oh well….at least I got to see it in its entirety, just not all at once :D
