The Silver Pavilion in Kyoto. The name is a bit of a misnomer. Unlike the Golden Pavilion, which is in fact plated in gold, at the Silver Pavilion there is no precious metal to be found. In fact, the temple itself is unremarkable. It’s just a pretty white building, with some lovely artwork inside.
That doesn’t mean that you should skip this temple, though. While the pavilion is merely average, the gardens are beautiful. Meticulously manicured and offering a lovely view of the city, they are worth a trip. Spend the afternoon sipping traditional green tea (so bitter it will make your eyes water!) and people watching.
